If you think the current folks in power will relinquish this power simply because there’s an appearance of getting less votes you have been paying attention the past 40 years. The erosion of principles is based on mass ability to deny, ignore and/or rationalize anyone would or could do what is happening. It takes an amazing level of arrogance in our current opposition leaders to think and act as if “we will do things like we’ve always done things and it will be fine.” These are the components of our undoing.
