we love fat babies because it is a sign of good health.
When we were evolving, food was scarce, and plumpness was a sign of food being available. That went double for babies.
My sons were naturally skinny. They have always been the healthiest kids I've known, and they're now ages 30 and 25. The older was was especially thin as a baby, toddler, and young child. My mother was always convinced he was malnourished and had rickets. She always preferred my sister's children, who had the more natural plumpness we're programmed for.
