(3,186 posts)When the S/O and friends go ice fishing, the eagles (-mostly-but some other birds too) used to steal the fish they catch. Because of this, they have learned over time to throw their catches in coolers right away. But almost every year, they will see out-of-staters who are unaware of the problem, getting their fish swiped. Sometimes the S/O will warn them, sometimes not, depending on the attitudes... Hehe
I'm glad that poor kid appears to be ok, because eagles can be very aggressive. And their talons are extremely sharp! Once, while the S/O was ice fishing with a new hat that had faux rabbit fur on it, an eagle swiped down and attempted to grab it right off his head. That could have really hurt, had he not seen it coming and smacked it away from him.
Never saw one go after a little kid until now, but eagles, owls, and other types of 'birds of prey' will often go after cats and little dogs, which is why I now have two strictly indoor kitties. I have good reason to believe some type of 'bird of prey' got my beloved cat 'Fatman' this past summer.
