It’s not over, but Griffin definitely wanted a win here. This was his best bet. If he couldn’t get Myers, his chances are looking vanishingly slim.

BREAKING: Judge Richard Myers rules that the N.C. Supreme Court's handling of the state supreme court election violated the U.S. Constitution.

The win for Justice Riggs, a Democrat, is to be certified.

Today's ruling stayed for 7 days for Judge Griffin, a Republican, to appeal "if he so chooses."

Next steps if Griffin wants to keep going would be an appeal to the Fourth Circuit, then en banc there, or to the U.S. Supreme Court.
