It hasn’t always been this way. Started to some extent in ‘94, when the state legislature changed hands, along with Congress, as a result of Gingrich’s Contract on America. The Dems took it back a couple years later, but then, as you know, came the Klanbaggers in ‘10, and it’s been a steep downhill slide ever since.
