Even though every dictionary I looked at says the term ‘86’ is from the restaurant or bar industry and means that a menu item is no longer available or that a customer should be cut off from further service, the White House has a different take.
They claim that a James Comer post of a photo of seashells on the beach arranged to spell out 86 47 is a threat to the President’s life. In their world 86 is a mafia term meaning a murder victim should be driven 86 miles out of town and be buried 6 feet under ground. It figures that Trump, who often bragged about his mob connections, would believe that, doesn’t it?
The rest of us understand that 86 47 is a great shorthand way to say ‘dump Trump.” So of course Trump’s propaganda people want to criminalize it.
I’m gonna keep using my 86 47 sign at demonstrations.
