(1,061 posts)A democrat has not won statewide in Texas since 1994!
Biden did perform relatively well there in 2020, losing by 5.5 points to Trump, but not nearly as well as Beto in 2018, who lost by 2.56. Granted Cruz was always less popular in Texas than Trump, but I think it sort of reinforces what youre saying.
Beto also did much better than Biden in the border communities, and Harris did even worse. Democrats are hemorrhaging voters in those areas so maybe its worth listening to the only democrat that has almost won a statewide seat in Texas in 30 years. Not sure why people are becoming so emotional about this. Every democrat in both 2026 and 2028 will be running away from both Biden and Harris. That is unfortunately how politics works.
According to wiki, On Election Day, Cruz defeated O'Rourke[7] by a margin just short of 215,000 votes, or 2.6 percent; the race was the closest U.S. Senate race in Texas since 1978.[8]
