Being old and retired, I can spend a great deal of time researching artists and their lives and historical times. Their works reflect that world which had terrible wars, strife, disease, madness, hunger, unimaginable loss and yet their works still stand. Yes, it is all European (and to some extent American) focused, but it is all human experiences. It might help and can't hurt (any more than what you now experience).
