as a rank and file voter gets.

But I CAN'T be a SENATOR or REP with thousands of constituents who have elected me and who are listening to me for direction in how we can work together to magnify our effect.

"Be the change you want to see" is the same as saying, "You do it." And you know what? The rank and file voter can't do it without coordination the leaders we have selected to be our voices. We need people to coordinate our actions so each of our efforts is not just some random person spitting into the wind.

"Be the change you want" in this context is just the new "shut up." It minimizes the effort the rest of us are making, and it over-promises on the effect any single one of us who is not an elected official can have.

There is nothing wrong with demanding that the people we have elected to lead us will actually lead us.
