... its fate in balancing on a razor's edge. A bloody civil war is not beyond the realm of possibility. Thanks to the Roberts Court of Fools, there are few, if any, legal options for restraining Trump's darkest desires, and Republicans are all in with a Christian Nationalist hellscape of unending terror.
But the grotesque incompetence of the Trump regime could be their undoing, and our faint glimmer of hope. Trump has surrounded himself with idiots who couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were on the heel, and they prove it several times a day. Their insufferable arrogance is certain to give the oligarchs pause. As vile as the oligarchs are, I suspect they're fast approaching a Come-to-Jesus moment, where they say, enough. How they'll bring this Confederacy of Dunces to heel remains to be seen, but a crippled world economy is not to anyone's advantage, so they're the ones to watch.
But the Bear fucking the Elephant in the room is the ringer everyone is pretending isn't there. Putin and his FSB are an existential threat both to us, and the rest of the world, so don't turn your back on that bunch. A face-off between Russian and American oligarchs would leave not just the world of men in ashes, but the entire planet.
There's so much insanity going on at once that predicting an outcome is not a safe bet right now. I try to be optimistic, but that's just whistling past the graveyard these days.
