corn moves in relation to demand and when the futures market craters because the beef and pork farmers are cutting way back on the number of animals on feed it will have that effect. The corn farmers will scream bloody murder and push for Crumb The 1st to give them massive taxpayer money as price "supports". USDA has one of it's most watched indicators that tracks animals on feed. All levels of the supply chain use indicators like this for their planning.

As the OP stated when an animal gets to a certain point of growth and ready for slaughter every day that shipping to slaughter is delayed means having to put more and more cost into feeding the animal, vet bills etc. and the profit goes down. It doesn't take long before you are running in the red by keeping them alive. What has been done in the past by many ranchers was to shoot the animals and bury them in mass graves.
