Most secular American Jews, per polling, agree with a two state solution. That would preserve Israel having a Jewish majority. However, the settlement movement is progressively making a two state solution much harder to achieve. If the settlements are included as part of Israel, it leaves a Palestinian state that looks like a piece of Swiss cheese. In addition, since Oct 7, 2023 some MK have spoken of removing Palestinians from Gaza.
If a 2:state solution is made impossible, it makes what Mamdani suggests as perhaps the most palatable solution, although one that Israel itself would likely never chose.
