If the choice is between voting for a Democrat and sending his Little Buddy into legal purgatory, to never be seen again, he will unhesitatingly choose to write off his friend. He will experience a moment's regret, shrug his shoulders, say, "oh, well," and go on with his life.

I'm speculating, of course, but I meet enough Republicans to have more than a fleeting suspicion that I am right.
