why not just call them applications on a desktop computer?) at a time. Is this true?
I ask because I rarely search for programs, hell I rarely used the start menu in Windows 7, nor even Windows XP. If I required, for example, to open the word processor and edit a specific file, I would click on the quicklaunch for windows explorer, and I'm no more than 2 clicks away from editing the file I was looking for. I do love the shortcuts in Win7 Explorer, but even without that, the tree structure in the left panel was perfect, quick, and logical.
Hell, the only things I ever accessed from the start menu, or would use this "start screen" for is games and sometimes other multimedia stuff, though again, if I wanted to watch a specific video that I have on my computer, the process above works equally well for that.
