3. They care about the 2nd Amendment only to the extent

it can be interpreted as conferring on everyone the right to own any kind of guns they want. At one time, maybe until 30 years ago or thereabouts, the NRA really was a sportsmen's organization whose emphasis was on gun safety and education. But then it got into the lobbying business; that's where the money and influence are, after all. Why waste time just teaching pheasant-hunting kids how to climb over a fence without shooting their feet off when you could collect big bucks on behalf of, and from, the gun manufacturers?

And here we are.
