The social contract has had 26 proverbial holes shot in it...it's a gaping hole. I agree mental health needs to be increased, but the costs are tremendous and won't be accomplished quickly. School functions have armed guards, most of them sports events. How ever we end up with this, the gun industry MUST bear the cost of regulation...and that includes, sadly, armed security guards at elementary schools.

Were I the parent of a young elementary child today ... again, yes. And neither do I want my kid's teacher to have a gun. It makes absolutely no sense. Where will it be kept? Well locked away, of course. When the unthinkable happens...how long will it take for him/her to access it? And in mayhem, and with kids all around, at what point should he or she shoot? It is the teacher's job to be defensive and manage the kids as best as possible. Not play Rambo...that's what the security guard is paid to do.
