He desperately wants one, and Putin who manipulated Trump for years with flattery has apparently not acted on his promises to Trump to actually stop fighting and seek peace. Trump may even understand he's been played for a fool-- something that would bother his big ego greatly.
Thing is that Putin really wants Ukraine, and will not relent.
