However, an equally frightening explanation for the rest is that he relies exclusively on a handful of his closest appointees to tell him what his administration is doing, and that he no longer watches and peruses (as he used to) any major news platforms or cable stations besides Fox so he is never exposed to facts or criticism of any kind. So there may be an intentional disconnect between what he is telling people to do and what they are doing, and, in turn, they tell him what he wants to hear while carrying out Project 2025 in total indifference to what Trump actually wants.

For that I'd blame guys like Miller and Vought and maybe some other behind-the-scenes people.

Neither one of those possibilities should comfort any of us.
