In reply to the discussion: Joe Rogan's friends followed him to Texas. They all seem to hate it. [View all]BaronChocula
(4,932 posts)As comics, I'm sure they have some sense of wit, but they have all the cultural idiocy of bro culture which is based on satisfying base impulses rather than thinking of big pictures. These specimens deride "woke culture" because it's so much easier for them and types like them to get laughs by punching down. Meanwhile, more legendary comics like George Carlin (who isn't even a favorite of mine) pointed out that real comedy was the art of punching up at those with all the power.
Rogan and his ilk are more about whatever cheap laughs they can get. Even Howard Stern has moved on (I think). And they thought they would find refuge in Austin which is pretty progressive for Texas. They should put their money where their mouth is and move to Abilene or Midland and see what the bugs and heat are like.
I have a friend who retired to the Fort Worth area from LA for a few years. She moved back to California.
