6. I've always given the ordinary citizens of Nazi Germany a little bit of largesse

Given that 1) There'd never BEEN a country taken over in that way by a Nazi-like party who'd do the horrific things theirs eventually did, and 2) There really was pretty serious economic hardship tied to the restitution that the country was having to pay for their damage in WWI, and their national pride was in the toilet. I'm not EXCUSING Nazis, mind you, but I at least understand why they were sucked in and had no clue about the direction they were heading at the time. They lacked a historical precedent they could examine.

There's NO fucking excuse now, not after we've seen what fascist governments do, especially not in any of the wealthier countries, like Germany itself.
