to do away with everything that challenges the status quo of straight male privilege. Look up the start of the anti-abortion movement. It was a made up issue by the leaders of the Moral Majority organization - something to galvanize the base with. There wasn't a clamoring for "protecting unborn babies" from the masses. Once started though, they can push other issues - anti birth control, homophobia and anti-trans BS... anything to keep the outrage going and keep them pulling the strings.
