[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]That was the exact time the earth's orbit reached maximal axial tilt, causing the return of progressive increase of daylight hours and shortening of dark hours. This is why the winter solstice has been termed the "return of the sun."

All the "end of the world" stuff this year is special to this solstice.
