Naugahyde chair. We always ate dinner on TV trays in the living room in front of the TV. Mom brought the trays out and we were eating. I think it was Wednesday Night at the Movies, and suddenly this ad came on.

For some reason, because I was only 5 at the time, I really wanted to watch this ad. Maybe I liked the little girl. I don't know. But I was watching and Dad said something. I put my hand up and continued watching the ad.

Suddenly Dad was yelling at the top of his lungs about how I needed to listen, listen, LISTEN when he said something. Like that Marine general in Full Metal Jacket, all he ever asked is that I treat every little utterance as if it was the Word of God.

Sigh. I was mad at him for years about that, because it was years before I ever was able to watch this ad in its entirety.

I have forgiven Dad by now, after all these years, but this did bring on some memories of not-so-good times - when I was a kid dinner was always fraught.
