5. Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos were pretty into gold.

From a 1986 LA Times article, "At least seven tons of gold worth more than $75 million reportedly disappeared from the inventories of the Philippine national treasury in the seven years after President Ferdinand E. Marcos took direct control of the processing and distribution of gold mined in the Philippines."

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Donnie has been dreaming up ways to get his grimy, tiny hands on some of the nation's gold bullion for decades. As the reports of Marcos' looting came out, I bet he was soooooo f-ing jealous! Where others saw disgusting levels of evil and greed, he saw a role model.

As far as décor, based on the photo this article, Imelda and 47 share an obsession for gaudy, tacky, gold crap. (And BTW, according to the article, "24 gold bricks, inscribed 'To my husband on our 24th anniversary'" were among the things listed in the 23 pages of customs papers that recorded what they showed up with.)
