56. His program, Focus on the Family, was broadcasted on AFN (Armed Forces Network) in Germany

Military family in Germany 1985-1988. AFN was the only English radio in town other than Canadian Broadcasting for the Canadian groups also stationed there. CBN had much more interesting programing. Obviously pre-internet days. Dobson’s program was horrible - basically beat your child if he/she misbehaves. And wives - you must submit to your husband. Domestic abuse was rampant in the military community. FOTF also provided really sappy children’s programming. Bleh! However both were well received throughout the church going military community. I thought even then it was a weird program to have as part of the station’s broadcast. This was a government provided station - don’t remember any other religious programming. A few years later Rush Limbaugh was added to the program line up.
