We are all supposed to suffer greatly for anything good that happens to us, because gawd and reasons.

Which would almost work, but there was such a hypocrisy even back then that people were already figuring out that those who felt this way were not the best people to be leading anything. But, the same mentality that makes them rethugs also makes them good business people because they have no scruples or morals and do not care about their fellow human beings.
