7. The "news" is nothing but suffering and fear.

I've made these comments many times over the years. Even my local news (every outlet) has drastically run with the "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality. The first ten minutes is every terrible thing that's happened in the US. The higher the body count, the earlier it is. It's all about fear. Shark attack off California, random shooting at a 7-11 in Chicago, house fire in Boston, will all take priority over something important that's local. Hurricane season may as well start in February when the weather people start "reminding" us that death and destruction is only 6 months away. Oh, speaking of hurricanes, that one 800 miles away that will never come near us? 24-7 reporting on it to "remind" us that at any point that it could be us.

And don't think you're being informed. Discussion about the fear of rising prices of electricity and insurance, but no reporting on the causes of these problems. Our streets flood after random afternoon showers. No reporting on our shit local politicians that won't do anything about it. We have a special election coming up for part of my area. Do they mention that? Do you think they have the candidates on to talk about why we should vote for them? Fuck no. Maybe if one of them started whacking the others with a steel folding chair at a high school baseball game we might. Idiocracy meets the WWE in real time, every day.

I stopped paying attention when the word "safe" was every 6th word those idiots uttered. It's all about fear, keeping everyone afraid. Why put yourself through this?
