My own parents were ashamed and had a hard time even speaking to me.
They left me in the care of my then boyfriend - now my husband.
I was attacked by a stalker who followed me and broke into my apartment.
He had been watching me for days from the fire escape outside my window.

The police told me that my curtains weren't thick enough.
My apartment was a fourth floor walk-up - the window was in the back of the building, not exposed to the street. The curtains were maroon in color - they were not sheer.
There was no counseling for rape victims back then - nor such a thing as trauma therapy.

This was 50 years ago and I'm in therapy now - diagnosed with CPTSD and PTSD.
