He was dead on the scene or close to it.
Too many serious injuries.

I once witnessed a motorcyclist killed after his bike crashed out of control some distance from my car.
He immediately went into decerebrate posturing and was dead at the scene.
Traffic was stopped so many people saw it and knew what it meant.
