(1,020 posts)If we are to truly live up to the ideals of the U.S. Constitution then we need to support people's right to free speech without violent reaction from others. I doubt I'd agree with anything Charlie Kirk said but I would support his right to say it. Yes, we have Freedom of Speech, within limits, and that means we also have to take responsibility for what we say. If you don't like what someone else said then use your Freedom of Speech to respond to what was said.
Once we start using violence as a means to respond to what we disagree with then we diminish or begin to lose our right to Freedom of Speech. This includes those who advocate using their "Second Amendment right" to stifle the voices of others. One of my favorite authors is Issac Asimov. Asimov wrote The Foundation Novels and one quote sums it up succinctly:
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.
Regardless of anyone's view of Charlie Kirk, murdering them is not the solution.
