I saw he had something that looked like an object wrapped in a towel or jacket. The police also said that they found a screwdriver. He could have unscrewed the barrel from the rifle stock and wrapped them in the towel.

It could not have been in either of his pant legs - he bends both legs fully both in running & when jumping

Yes. If that is the actual rifle used. It would be a tight fit, but maybe possible. The question is disassemble time.

To remove the barrel you must remove the bolt. This removes the spent casing. It was reinserted at some point. /nt
