But it was the decades before us that really set up up for that. Americans became complacent living in quiet suburbia pretending that they didn't have to participate in democracy, that somehow everything would turn out OK like in a fairly tale or some Disney movie.

Many people on the this forum probably understood the threat back then, but the vast majority of Americans simply sat back and watched. And while they did that, our enemies took advantage of our complacence. They put together the propaganda engine that began with Limbaugh and went on to Fox and the destruction of the Fairness Doctrine. On through the Tea Party and Gingrich and the other right-wing predators, eventually leading to the unholy birth of MAGA.
