It appears to me (though he hasn't been directly named) that he was the "friend" who, after speaking with Robinson's concerned family members, called the police to tell them what he knew -- all evidence "after the fact." That led to Robinson's quick arrest.

And police have consistently described the roommate as very cooperative.

Cox also confirmed reports that investigators have interviewed Robinson’s roommate, who was described as a “romantic partner” and is transitioning from male to female.

“This partner has been incredibly cooperative, had no idea that this was happening, and is working with investigators right now,” Cox said on CNN.
