Bessent Says US Expressed Dismay to Chinese Over Nvidia Ruling [View all]

"Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said US negotiators expressed disappointment to their Chinese counterparts when they learned during trade talks of China’s ruling that Nvidia Corp. had violated anti-monopoly laws with a high-profile 2020 deal.

Bessent, in an interview on Tuesday with CNBC, said he wasn’t sure if the Chinese negotiators in Madrid were initially aware of the ruling.

“The Nvidia headline came across the tape late morning London time, and we, of course, expressed our disappointment” to the Chinese delegation, he said from London ahead of President Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK.

He added that the Nvidia announcement “had nothing to do with the ongoing talks or the outcome of the talks.”
