behave in a sociopathic manner all by themselves. Profit, especially short term profit, rules. Initally, US corporations were allowed to exist only for the benefit of the people. Got out of hand fast...

Some time ago IIRC, approx 2/3 of the world's largest economies were corporations. And their money is free speech. And bribing is legal.
