The actual shot was not that great…the bullet ricocheted off the bullet proof vest Kirk was wearing up into his neck.
You can see it on the closeup video of the shooting….its at the Internet Archive for those interested.
I will not post the link…you must decide on your own if you want to see.

I’ve watched it many times. You can see it clearly…if Kirk wasn’t wearing a vest, he might not have been killed, the bullet MAY have only hit his clavicle area.
