Trump’s base, of course, will just go along with this attack. I’m sure they’re hoping Comey doesn’t have enough allies or public sympathy to get much blowback. There’s nothing inconsistent about believing politicized, corrupt indictments are wrong and finding satisfaction in an instance. The former is a judgment and the latter reveals an emotion. Often initial acquiescence to schadenfreude needs time to give way to rational analyses. That being said, I wholeheartedly agree with your last paragraph. This is a chilling move by the Trump administration and I believe the most effective response would be widespread condemnation of the indictment and possibly protest.
