14. Talk to an insurance claims advocate

Who would represent you in fighting the insurance company's decision regarding this claim. Don't take the word of an insurance agent whose job is to sell insurance.

When our house burned down in 2007, our insurance company was refusing to pay full replacement cost--for which we were insured--and what they offered was not enough to pay off the mortgage. We hired a public insurance claims advocate, who negotiated with the insurance company for us, and finally got us what we were owed. He took a % of the additional amount he was able to negotiate, but it was still a lot more than what the insurance company had offered and did enable us to pay off the mortgage. And all the while we were required to make the mortgage payments on a burned down house!

You should at least look into hiring a public advocate before accepting the settlement being offered by the insurance company.

Two public adjuster companies in KS:

Home | Stokes Public Adjusters, LLC https://www.stokesclaims.com/

This second one is based in MO, but they may also be licensed to work in Kansas.

Expert Adjusters | Fair Comp. in Kansas City https://www.adjuster4you.com/
