Trump Declares Shooting at Mormon Church in Michigan 'Appears to Be Yet Another Targeted Attack On Christians' [View all]

President Donald Trump said the shooting at a Mormon church in Michigan on Sunday morning appeared to be “yet another targeted attack on Christians” — with the fatal shooting coming just a month after two kids were killed and several others were injured during a shooting at a Catholic church in Minnesota.

The president posted on Truth Social shortly after news of the Michigan shooting broke. Here is what he said:

I have been briefed on the horrendous shooting that took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Grand Blanc, Michigan. The FBI was immediately on scene, and will be leading the Federal Investigation, and providing full support to State and Local Officials. The suspect is dead, but there is still a lot to learn. This appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America. The Trump Administration will keep the Public posted, as we always do. In the meantime, PRAY for the victims, and their families. THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!

Many fundamentalists don't consider Mormons to be Christian but that's neither here nor there. The fact is the shooter was a veteran with mental health issues who had access to a gun.

Veteran's benefits have been cut back and a law forbidding the sale of firearms to those with mental health issues was repealed.
