2. Phone companies offering landline phones aren't interested/

Not anymore. They're shedding customers like dogs shed fur. I'm afraid the landline is moribund.

I had one for a very long time. I didn't use it for much at all, except to call my parents every day when they were old. They died in 2021. I canceled the landline shortly thereafter. Too bad, too. I had a nice collection of old landline phones, beginning with an oak wall phone from the 1890s and a 1920s candlestick phone and ending with a like-new Princess phone. At one point, I had 10 of them hooked up in my house, just for fun. I had none with touch-tone buttons, though.
