It will NOT be out of some newly found "courage." It will just be a new kind of fear -- fear of Republican losses, particularly among those in states or house districts that republicans generally win by less than 10%.
As 47 continues to damage the Republican "brand," there will be attempts -- probably feeble attempts -- to put distance between themselves and the trump regime on the most unpopular actions. They will be feeble attempts because they'll be trying to 'thread the needle" (find things they can object to without getting themselves on Trump's enemies list). But a crack is a crack, however small. And little cracks tend to grow.
Frankly, if the FCC-Kimmel debacle had happened when Trump still had majority approval on the economy and immigration, I don't think Ted Cruz would have denounced the FCC mob-tactics. I think Ted is seriously concerned about having to welcome James Talarico as the Junior Senator from Texas in 2027 and is looking for places he can make a show that Republicans aren't all in lock step with the regime on everything -- something he can use to salvage the "brand." He is well aware how close Beto got. (Unfortunately, Cornyn and Paxton are currently to busy trying out MAGA each other to get Trump's endorsement, we won't see anything resembling a spine from Cornyn.)
Sorry to go off on a tangent. The short story is that while we will not be seeing anything resembling spines from the snivelers, they may start getting afraid of going down with the 47 regime ship.
