Getting the 218th signature on the discharge petition forces a vote on the bill in the House. You would think it would pass because everyone who signed the discharge petition should vote for it. Unfortunately, if and when that happens, it does not come close to forcing the release of the Epstein files. It would still need to pass the Senate and then signed by Trump (which, of course, will never happen). Johnson and every other Republican involved knows this so forcing that vote on the House bill should not be that big of a deal really, because simply passing the House does nothing. So there has to be more to it about why they don't want that vote to happen.
