12. I'm old enough to remember when the Mighty USA sent "advisors" to Vietnam in the '50s and '60s.

It was going to be a quick and easy victory for the "good guys". Years later the "few" advisors had grown to 543,482 in 1969. Our "leaders" from Ike to JFK to LBJ to Nixon left behind millions of dead civilians and 58,220 US troops dead to save us from the "falling dominoes".

Now, again, with a new leader we out for blood because Trump didn't get the Peace Prize to cover his bone-spurs.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
