Still, amid the finger-pointing, it’s clear some Republicans are more enraged about the leak than the horrifying contents of the messages themselves.

When Kansas gubernatorial candidate Vicki Schmidt called on two state Young Republican leaders to resign over their racist comments revealed in the leak, she was viciously attacked online. Aidan, Giunta’s ally, told her: “Have fun being another stupid b**ch that ran for governor and lost.”

The Young Republican National Federation, with 15,000 members nationwide, issued a statement condemning the chat’s contents and calling for resignations. But not everyone in the party agreed.

Enter JD Vance.

The vice president refused to denounce the slurs. Instead, he defended the leakers’ victims.

“I refuse to join the pearl clutching,” Vance wrote on X. “Most of… the stupid things that I did as a teenager and as a young adult, they’re not on the internet.”
