they all use punctuation (correctly), full sentences, and appropriate capitalization.
They are 24, 23, and 17....all boys.
Just one data point and they are all avid readers and grew up with me as a mother, so that may have something to do with it.

I have also read that using punctuation in a text is considered "aggressive."
