and thats just at the downtown rally. theres a retirement bldg near me that had about 75 ppl last time that had a couple hundred this time. a march broke out, there were so many ppl.
rallies all over the burbs, too.
The crowd, which organizers estimated totalled around 200 to 250,000 people, gathered in Butler Field ahead of the planned start of the demonstration. There were ongoing rolling street closures around Grant Park due to the demonstration.
Governor JB Pritzker spoke at the protest in support of Chicago's immigrant community after what he called attacks on democracy.
"The reality here in Chicago is this: Black and Brown people are being rounded up because of the color of their skin. Children are being zip-tied and separated from their parents. Worshippers coming from church are being questioned and detained. Workers are being harassed and detained at our restaurants," Pritzker said. "These are people who pay taxes, own businesses, and teach our children, and contribute to the fabric of our society. This is us, all of us."
