So this week the drunken sot who is our Defense Secretary [View all]
declared that the US soldiers who received medals for taking part in the massacre at Wounded Knee would keep their medals. Most people know the basics about Wounded Knee but some of the details of conduct of the US soldiers may not be fresh in people's minds.
These are some of the details from various accounts of survivors, soldiers, Native American scouts working with the US Army and others. Many of the women, some pregnant and some holding infants were in their lodges with white flags showing. The US soldiers turned their field artillery on them and fired away. This according to the witness American Horse who had been friendly to the soldiers. Then they hollered for those who were in hiding to come out and they would spared and so young children came out from their hiding places and were gathered and butchered. Some women had tried to run away but even though they were miles from Wounded Knee they were hunted down, killed and left to lay in the snow.
One baby who survived was taken by General William Colby and her name was Lost Bird. He paraded her as a "possession" and for profit in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. She died at the age of 29 in Los Angeles. In 1991 the Lakota were successful in having her remains brought back to Wounded Knee to be buried where the rest of her family fell.
These despicable acts are found to be heroic and deserving of medals by the drunken sot who parades himself around in overly tight suit jackets so that he appears "muscular" and tough. Maybe that's the kind of thinking that comes from seeing the bottom of the bottle enough times. Maybe the ideas about medals were down there too. How he views what the soldiers did that day at Wounded Knee shows us what a tiny, tiny man is inside that overly tight suit.
