'Gatsby' Comment I couldn't post to NY Times [View all]

Sorry to vent, but I read this little piece about the "Gatsby party" and wrote a little comment, then just as I posted it the 'comments' for that article closed. Thus I vent. Thank you.

Gatsby and Daisy were shallow, as were many people in the 1920s including - dare I say it - Fitzgerald himself. There were horrible things happening to people different from Jay and Daisy just around the corner.

But for sophisticated glamour and chic, it's Gatsby. Trump has always been as fake as his tan. He and his family are gaudy, tasteless, gauche pretenders of the worst kind. (It really makes me wonder why they hate drag queens so much, because everything they do seems like a hilarious 'oh my Jesus' over the top send-up!)

Gatsby at least had the excuse of not having seen the Great Depression, WWII, the Civil Rights Movement and the Women's Movement. Don't know what MAGA's excuse is. Somebody should give them some G.I. Joe and Barbie dolls and let them play until they've worked it out of their system.
