Their support of right-wing ideas stems from the perception that male violence is everywhere and uncontrollable. They think by embracing "traditional values," it ensures their safety from male violence, especially rape. Never underestimate this mindset; it happens with women from all backgrounds, but it is especially true with women on the right. They think marriage "protects" them, and they believe in the exaggerated threat of sexual violence from strangers to limit their own movements and interests. It is all lies, but these lies are hard for them to shake.

In other words, to them it is a matter of survival to side with the political right.
