5. As a side note, we forget that back in those days, a horse might be the only thing of value a person has.

Yesterday

Getting your horse stolen then would result in job loss and/or any possibility of taking care of yourself or family.
IOW, it was a damn serious crime. I wish penalties for thieving (and I'm talking here about the white collar kind) were
much more serious - not hanging of course - but financial dismemberment for the worst fraudsters. Alas, we are now a nation
of men - not laws.
